Melbourne as one of the world’s most livable cities, the free tram zone in the city has encouraged people to walk around the streets. However, with the rising population, how might we build a more inclusive multi-cultural community, with adequate public services and facilities. The outcome to achieve will be a community where one’s enjoys adequate space in the public realm even on the busiest street. Bourke Street Mall is the only pedestrian-friendly street with no cars in the CBD. As a major retail district, shaping a people-oriented street is the key to increase the public space walkability which eventually contributes to the social and economical aspects. Emerging technology and trends nowadays have a strong influence on social and economic development. The final outcome of this project aimed to provide a real-time data visualization for more effective and efficient conversations between the people and government in terms of urban planning and services. The site analysis data and the community feedbacks are significant to provide the direction and proposal to the Urban Planning Team from the Government Organisation - City of Melbourne on “How can we shape a people-oriented street?”
